What are we learning about in Class 4?

Spring 1 - 2018

Happy new year! Let 2018 begin. Our topic this half term is The Romans. This means that children will be learning all about how the Romans lived and their empire. In class 4 our learning is very cross curricular so there will be lots of opportunities to link this topic through all the curriculum areas, such as maths, DT, Art, Literacy, Science and Dance.

In Maths we will be continuing to learn times tables (x6, x7, x8). We value your support in helping your children to embed these table facts. We will be continuing to learn about fractions and decimals. We will also revise measurement, money and data handling.

In Literacy we will write stories with familiar settings, explore biographies, letter writing and historical texts and revise features of information texts.

In PSHE Mrs Nugent will teach the topic ‘Going for Goals.’ In RE they will be covering Special times with a focus on the religion of Islam.

French will be taught by Mrs Knott on a Wednesday afternoon.

Science This half term we are looking at light and light sources moving onto Electricity.

ICT This will be taught on a Friday afternoon. The children will have the opportunity to explore coding and how to create a simple game through the programme Scratch

PE days will be on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday afternoons, Mrs Nugent will teach gymnastics on a Thursday afternoon and it will be hockey on Tuesday with Miss Hadley. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school. Hockey will be taking place outside so sensible clothing is advised.

We will be setting weekly homework tasks which will be given to children on a Wednesday. The homework will then be due in the following Tuesday which will be marked and returned. Children will be expected to complete maths and literacy tasks, learn their spellings and read at least three times a week. Spelling lists will be given out on Fridays in preparation for a spelling test the following Friday. Home-School contact books will need to be handed in on a Friday for us to sign.

If you feel that you could contribute to class 4s learning, then please feel free to offer support. We really value parental support and would welcome any early awareness of any issues that you feel you would like to discuss with us.
