What are we learning about in Class 4?

Summer Term - 2018

Summer 2 curriculum letter.

Only 7 weeks of this year left. Wow. Where has this year gone?

This term’s topic is Japan. The children will be looking at the geographical features of the country in comparison to the UK. We will also research Japans culture and compare it to our own. In Literacy we are also looking at haikus (Japanese poetry) and diary writing with a focus a day in the life of a Japanese school child.

In art the children will be exploring modern and traditional art from Japan. This includes Manga comics. The children have another homework project, see separate sheet provided.

We will then end the term doing a smaller topic based on the Anglo Saxons.

The Jungle book performance

The children will be supporting class 5 in the Jungle book performance, so song lyrics will be sent out in due course. We would appreciate it if you could help the children learn the lyrics.

Some children will be given some lines to say but they will be given separate scripts later in the term.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to practise their speaking and listening skills and performing in front of an audience.

After a successful half term doing orienteering at Lacon school this half term the children will be doing rounders on a Tuesday with Miss Hadley and cricket with Mrs Nugent on a Thursday. Please can the children have PE kits in school for these days. If the weather permits these will both take place outdoors so appropriate clothing is needed.

The children will be consolidating the skills they have learnt over the past year and applying these to different problem-solving situations. As always, we will continue to hold our times table challenge on a Friday. Please support your child by allowing them to practise theirs times tables.

The children will be rewarded at the end of this term with a prize if they read 3 times every week from now until the end of term.

Reading is such an important skill and it helps the children succeed in other curriculum areas. Therefore, we would really appreciate your support by listening to your child read and signing their home links every time.

Thank you again for your continuing support,

Miss Hadley
